Arnold Walter Rump, age 91, died on Sunday October 25th in Dillsboro, Indiana. Arnold was born on October 23, 1924 in Dillsboro to Walter and Hilda
(Licking) Rump who preceded him in death.
Arnold Rump was a lifelong resident of Dillsboro. He was born on North Street . Arnold had 4 siblings: Marilyn (the late Harold) Eades of Yuma,
AZ, Marion (Don) Black of Dillsboro, the late Donald (the late Sonya) Rump of Virginia Beach, VA and the late Dorthea “Dot” (Marvin) Bernhart of
Jeffersonville, IN.
Arnold graduated from Dillsboro High School in 1942 and served our country in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946. He married the late Evelyn (Shelton)
Rump in 1946 and they had 3 children: Sandy Weiss of Dillsboro, Larry (Cherie Harmeyer) Rump of Dillsboro, and Doug (Linda Grinstead) Rump of
Versailles. He also had 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
After returning from the military he worked for his father, the late Walter Rump in his construction company and later for James Macy Construction
in Greendale, IN. In the late 1960’s Arnold and his brother-in-law, Jesse Shelton, started their own construction company Shelton& Rump. They built
numerous homes in Dillsboro and the surrounding area. Arnold retired early in 1986 to care for his wife, Evelyn. After her death, he enjoyed
spending time and traveling with his companion of 19 years, Winnie Sidebottom. They traveled all around the United States and to her native country
of England.
Arnold volunteered his time and construction skills over the years to many individuals and organizations in the community of Dillsboro. He was a
life member of American Legion Post #292 Dillsboro and the Milan VFW.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday October 29, 2015 from 5-8 at the Dillsboro United Methodist Church . A celebration of life service will be
Friday October 30th at 11 a.m. at the Church with Pastor Mona Safley officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society,
or the Dillsboro United Methodist Church.
